Two Great Items
Whew! After several quarters of soft book sales pretty much across the board, at least one publisher is showing signs of strength -- Harlequin. Their sales are up $2.5 million this quarter, about 1.8%. This article in The Globe and Mail has the details. Stronger sales can encourage publishers to take more chances on new authors and new ideas, which makes this very good news for writers and readers alike!
And speaking of good news for readers, writer (and fellow ORWA member) Dawn Calvert just sold her first book to Kensington! Congrats to Dawn on this wonderful achievement. I'm looking forward to seeing her book on the shelves. Here's some more info from Publisher's Lunch:
"Dawn Calvert's BETWEEN THE COVERS, about a drama queen English teacher who finds herself a minor character in a Regency-era novel, fighting the writer to become the heroine and win the man of her dreams, to Hilary Sares at Kensington, in a nice deal, in a two-book deal, by Deidre Knight at The Knight Agency (world). Deidre.Knight@knightagency.net"
Publication date is December, 2006. I can't wait!
